Regardless of who was there and doing what from the beginning, at the end of the day, the "proof is in the pudding". Now that Hosni Mubarak has fled Cairo, did Egypt end up with a Nasserist-Nationalist Junta like Egypt did in 1952 or has the backbone of the Egyptian dictatorship remained in power with the political status quo prevailing with the same old Junta that used to be run by Mubarak? That junta which are basically CIA assets and who run the country as an IMF/World Bank/WTO colonial outpost.
It's not like we dont have plenty of examples of what a real revolution looks like. The perfect example is right in Egypt with Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1952 who quickly started off by nationalizing the Suez Canal, for which he was attacked by the combined military force of Britain, France and Israel. He also shed himself of the US, became a founder of the Non-Aligned Movement and got the for financing for Aswan Dam development project from the Soviet Union
- Prior to 1952 Egyptian example, probably one of the greatest revolutions was in India with Mohandas Gandhi on On August 15, 1947
- Mao Tse-tung on October 1, 1949
- Ho Chà Minh and Vo Nguyen Giap in Vietnam on 1 May 1975
- Fidel Castro and Che Guevara in Cuba on January 8, 1959
- In Nicaragua, there's Daniel Ortega and the Sandinistas on July 19, 1979
- The Zapatistas in Chiapas Mexico on January 1, 1994.
- The Iranian Revolution on April 1, 1979
- Putin in Russia on December 31, 1999 but who didn't make his move until he arressted Mikhail Khodorkovsky on October 25, 2003. That's the day George Bush realized that what he thought he saw in Putin's eye must have been something other than his "soul".
- Hugo Chavez, Venezuela, 2 February 1999. Chavez has spun off Evo Morales, Bolivia on December 18, 2005. Rafael Correa, Ecuador in late 2006, probably José Mujica in Uruguay on 1 March 2010 although this is too early to call.
The funniest thing about this current revolutionary wave - and it is funny - is that all of these Middle Eastern dictators that are currently being overthrown are "our dictators", and we are not in the least upset or disturbed by it. The US Corporate Electronic Hallucination, Hillary Clinton & other USG functionaries would not be talking about how wondrous and awesome it is that "our dictators" are being overthrown, unless the "previous batch" of "our dictators" were being replaced with the "next batch" of "our dictators". Praise for authentic revolutionaries such as Hugo Chavez, Vladimir Putin, Evo Morale and Raul Castro is always non existent from these bright and shining faces.
But forget all of the "Pravda & Izvestia" reading between the lines and a Chomsky-esque ferreting out of all the "hidden" or "assumed" or "subsumed" premises for what the truth might actually be. An authentic revolutionary has a program and sets about the process of immediately revolutionizing the country. This activity is guaranteed to set off the howling mob who quickly cut the oil and grain shipments and who starts covertly planning "bay of Pigs" style operations. A true revolutionary leadership of Egypt would already be well on the way to accomplishing most of the following
- Nationalized properties taken by globalized transnational corporations in privatization schemes which almost always include national telecommunications systems, public utilities, etc., which are auctioned off to the lowest bidder usually during a period of economic collapse
- Seized the assets of foreign multinational monopolistic firms, especially oil companies.
- Established price controls on basic food staples and fuels, with death penalties for speculation, including by way of derivatives.
- Food production being promoted by production and import bounties, as well as by barter deals since one of the prices of a true revolution is the cut off of wheat and grain shipments from the US.
- Implemented Capital controls and exchange controls to prevent speculative attacks on national currencies and hot cash flows by foreign hedge funds.
- Thrown off the yoke of IMF "structural adjustments" and reassert their national sovereignty.
- Expelled the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and other subsidiary lending institutions.
- Declared a debt moratorium in the form of an open-ended freeze on all payments of interest and principal of international financial debt using the Argentine model, including foremost the sums allegedly owed to the IMF-World Bank.
- Implemented measures such as protective tariffs and food price subsidies
- National grain stockpiles quickly constituted.
- Nationalized Central banks and converted to a policy of low interest or no interest credit for domestic infrastructure, agriculture, housing, and physical commodity production and enhancing exports
- Make deals with Argentina, Ukraine, Russia to reduce dependence on US and UK (principally grain).
- Increase the general minimum wage in Egypt. 50% of Egypt’s are below $2 dollars a day?
- Major Housing Development with material and labor from within Egypt
- Expansion, widening, improving the Suez Canal
- A developmental program for the Nile Valley
- The Creation of a Second Nile Valley to take advantage of the Nile which is lost into the Sea, which leads, short term, to employment and long term leads to agricultural development and makes Egypt less susceptible to international blackmail
- High Speed Rail to Luxor - fast development of the Tourist trade
